North Coast
In the northern reaches of California, a little skill and a pair of in-lines can take you through a forest of giant redwoods, down Main Street in a quaint seaport village, and along a path strewn with pine needles. Fine skating opportunities can be found throughout the North Coast region, which stretches for more than 200 miles along the rugged shore of the Pacific Ocean and reaches inland to the majestic Six Rivers and Mendocino National Forests. Way up in Humboldt County, you can skate in and around the coastal towns of Arcata, Ferndale, and Trinidad. Crescent City, 20 miles from the Oregon border, even has its own in-line hockey rink at the fairgrounds. Although there are fewer dedicated bicycle paths and lanes this far north, the historic flavor preserved in many of the Victorian-era buildings and the relaxed character of the towns deliver a truly special California skating experience.
